2026-02-25 Wife Cakes and Mini Century Egg Pastries

The Home Economics Department collaborated with the English Department and Guidance & Counselling Team to organise the "Exploring Chinese Traditional Culture through Cooking" workshop at Kee Wah Studio. The entire S2D class participated under the guidance of Ms Poon Shuk Yuen, Ms Lau Ka Fong, and Mr Tam Chi Hin.
Students hands-on made Wife Cakes (Lao Po Bing) and Mini Century Egg Pastries while discovering traditional Chinese marriage customs. Wife Cakes symbolise the sweetness and harmony of newlywed life, reflecting values of filial piety, family unity, and marital bliss in Chinese wedding traditions.
This engaging session blended cultural learning with practical cooking skills. Through teamwork, students deepened their appreciation of heritage foods and their cultural stories, while building kitchen confidence. The workshop successfully promoted holistic development, sparked cooking passion, and connected classroom learning to Hong Kong's rich culinary heritage.
